What is 30 Hour Famine

The 30 Hour Famine campaign is World Vision Taiwan's annual response to humanitarian crisis around the world including natural and man-made disasters, the effects of climate change, the global food crisis, war and conflict, and the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Since 1990, the 30 Hour Famine has mobilized people of all ages from schools, churches, and corporate partners to raise awareness and collect donations to help people in immediate need.

The 30 Hour Famine originated from the teachings on prayer and fasting in the Bible. Through fasting, Christians can better understand the plight of the poor and hungry. By remaining in God and with the power of prayer, we hope to bless to the needy so we can "proclaim freedom for the captives, release from darkness the prisoners, fill the hungry with good things, rest the wanderers, and cover the naked."

Through the passionate effort of 30 Hour Famine participants, the campaign has brought relief aid to more than 80 countries around the world, responding to emergencies such as September-21 Earthquake and Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan, the Asia Tsunami, the Haitian Earthquake, Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, and Horn of Africa Food Crisis. Nearly 50 million people have benefited from the emergency relief and rehabilitation programs funded by Taiwan.
