Indonesia Merapi Volcano

Mt. Merapi, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, erupted on October 26, 2010. Massive eruptions, the worst in over 100 years, have forced at least 200,000 people to flee their villages.

Although the volcanic activity has reduced and evacuees have begun to return home since mid-November, there were still 17,090 internally displaced people located in 106 evacuation centers across four districts as of December 20, and the warning status is still in the highest level.

World Vision has reached over 40,000 people by distributing masks, family kits (plaited mat, sarong, blanket, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, tissue and women sanitary napkin), mattresses, collapsible water containers, Children kits (blanket, baby soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, baby oil and baby talk), school kits, and hygiene promotion kits. World Vision also built temporary latrines and continues to operate mobile libraries in evacuation centers.
