"By doing the famine, four generations of our church congregation - the old, middle-aged, youth, and children - got together and learned to appreciate the food given by our Lord. Therefore, we were all moved to contribute for the people without food."-- Pastor Hong, Ying-quan, Assembly of God Taipei.
"We conveyed the message of God’s love through the famine so we can help people in need."-- Pastor Lin, Chang-yu, Pingtung Wanluan Church.
"We involved our community in the famine. Our wealthy children got to know how blessed they were by experiencing the feel of hunger. They also learned to extend a hand to the less fortunate. Both the children and their parents were encouraged." -- Pastor Yang Zhi-hui, Bethel Mission in Taipei. |

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. (Isaiah 58:6-8)

Food crises, natural disasters, conflicts, diseases, etc. all cause hunger. In 2007, World Vision is dedicated to fighting hunger in North Korea, Kenya, Angola, Zimbabwe, Laos, Swaziland, and Lesotho. Also in India, Sri Lanka, East Congo, and Afghanistan, World Vision is saving lives from the threats of HIV and AIDS, wars, and high-risk environments. Moreover, World Vision will support the disaster-prone communities in the mountainous areas of Taiwan.
Let's pray for the children in darkness and hunger. May God help us to show compassion for the children and bring hopes to them! |
